Final and Artist Statement

Artist Statement

My interaction was based around the idea of something (in my case a person) following the mouse around the screen. I gathered my main idea for my interaction from stunt planes and how they do different tricks in the air and leave a trail of smoke behind them. From this I thought of the idea of making a super hero fly around the screen by following the mouse. After a while I thought that it would be quite boring if he just flew around on a blank screen, so I decided to introduce the city scape to it along with some clouds.
The user is fully in control  of the flying guy as he only moves with the mouse, so depending where the mouse is moved to the guy will follow that path.

Step 5

the 5th step was copying the stick man into the other code with the background and adding a smoke trail. Adding the smoke trail was quite difficult at first but after add managed to find the coding for a simple particle system which i was able edit it made it a lot easier and was pretty much a matter of copying some of the code into my own.

Step 3 and 4

Step 3
In step 3 i decided to add windows to the buildings so you could see through them and be able to see the guy flying behind them also it gives the appearance that he is flying through the buildings.

step 4 was creating the stickman which was pretty basic as he is just made up of an ellipse and a series of lines.

Step 1 and 2

Step 1
was setting up the background for my idea and sorting out the mouse move function. Which was all very simple to do, as you can see in the picture.

Step 2
In this I added what was meant to be the idea of a city Scape. I did this to make my code a lot more interesting as i thought that just having a guy flying around with nothing on screen would end up getting quite boring for the user.

Project 2- Research and Inspiration

Here are just two examples an interactive code which i found interesting. Both codes follow the direction of the mouse and require you to click at the same. The second link is probably my favorite as it allows you to draw whatever you desire. The first link is also very cool due to its use of colour and the way it forms different shapes at different speeds.

These are two images which i would like my idea to relate too. I wish to create an appilcation that is based upon the idea of a superhero following the mouse and leaving a trail of smoke behind him.

Final

ALGORITHM
Diagonally downwards at 45 degrees to the right one unit, to the left one unit, down one unit, diagonally up at 45 degrees to the right one unit, down one unit, to the right one unit, diagonally up at 45 degrees to the left one unit, to the right one unit, up one unit, diagonally downwards at 45 degrees to the left, up one unit, across to the left one unit.

REPETITION
Move across to the right two units and repeat x 4
Move left 6 units and down 2 units

Experimenting with colour

Here i just tried different colours against the white. They all look good but I think that black still contrasts the best and stands out alot more.

Developments

Here i was trying out the red on black to see if it stood out more and just seeing how well it all contrasted, I also developed the pattern a bit more.

Concept ideas

These are a few basic ideas for my patterns. The one I have chosen to continue to develope is my fourth idea. I decieded to use this one as i think it is the most interesting design out of them all.
